Vision and Values
By 2017, the Division of General Internal Medicine will consist of 20 full-time faculty who are compensated at the 50th percentile based on the MGMA and AAMC data, serve as attending staff for inpatients with restrictions on volume that enable us to optimize the teaching and patient care that is provided. We will have at least three providers scheduled in the faculty practice daily and we will organize our residency continuity clinics in a manner that optimizes teaching while ensuring top-notch clinical care to our patients. We will serve as the “home” for the Med-Peds residency training program with at least 4 med-peds trained faculty within our division. We will conduct a regular faculty development series of conferences for general internists in Central Arkansas.
New faculty will go through an organized, time-protected, all-encompassing orientation. There will also be a formal mentoring program for all junior faculty members which will include the opportunity for new faculty members to work with senior faculty members on research papers, quality improvement efforts and grant-writing. All leaders within the division will develop and maintain a succession plan.
Within the marketplace, we will provide excellent clinical care, but we will be known for our regional and national leadership in medical education, our industry-sponsored and evidence-based effective and meaningful clinical research, and our care of patients from the state of Arkansas, regardless of their payer status. Twenty-five percent of residents who graduate from the Internal Medicine Training Program at UAMS will choose a career in General Internal Medicine or in Hospital Medicine.
Our three support staff members will support the internal medicine clerkship, the promotion and tenure of our faculty members, quality improvement efforts for all clinical venues, fellowship program(s), grant submissions and publications. The faculty in our Division will publish a minimum of 10 publications yearly and we will bring in at least three extra-mural grants each year.
