Diagnosis, “Ice-tea Nephropathy.” Nephrologists at UAMS diagnosed and treated a man whose kidney disease was caused by drinking over a gallon a day of iced-tea. The treating team included Drs. Fahd Sayed, Alejandra Mena-Gutierez, Umbar Ghaffar and Sudhir Shah. The article was published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine, appeared in the Washington Post, and and on CBS Affiliate CBS Affiliate Local TV.
John Arthur, M.D., Ph.D., is the new Director of the Division of Nephrology. Dr. Arthur is an MD/PhD physician scientist graduate of University of Iowa, College of Medicine and Department of Pharmacology. He received his BS in Zoology from Iowa State University, graduating with distinction. Dr. Arthur completed clinical and research residency training at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina on an ABIM clinical investigator pathway.
