Sushma Bhusal, M.D.

Sushma Bhusal, M.D.

I currently serve as the Medical Director for Kidney Transplantation. I completed my medical school from Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) located at Pondicherry, in Southern India. I have the added experience of surgery having completed three years of Ophthalmology at PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. I relocated to the US in 2009 where I switched gears and pursued Internal Medicine residency at Saint Vincent Hospital at Worcester, MA (2011-2014). Thereafter I proceeded to complete my Nephrology Fellowship at New York University, New York (2014-2016). I am passionate about immunology and went on to do one more year of Transplant Nephrology Fellowship at University of Pittsburgh (2016-2017). My first job has been at UAMS and I like working here. We work closely with the Surgeons and it’s been a great experience. The number of kidney transplantation at UAMS has almost quadrupled since 2017 when I joined and going strong. I attribute this to the harmonious relationship between all the people involved in the multidisciplinary approach needed to take care of the transplant recipients and transplant candidates.
