There is one endocrine inpatient consulting service that covers both UAMS and CAVHS. Each fellow covers the inpatient service on 15 day blocks for a total of 3 months during the year.

Fellows are trained to manage a broad spectrum of conditions including: diabetes ketoacidosis, steroid-induced hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, myxedema coma, thyroid storm, adrenal crisis, hypercalcemia, hypocalcemia, and diabetes insipidus.

During the inpatient service, fellows’ outpatient care duties include only their CAVHS continuity care clinic (half day/week) and the CAVHS insulin pump clinic (half day/month).
